Bladder Cancer Befalls Unknowing Actos Users
People with diabetes know the medical challenges they face, monitoring their blood sugar and managing it through diet and lifestyle restrictions as well as diabetes medications. While it’s been know for many years that some diabetes drugs have severe side effects, what wasn’t known was that at least one diabetes drug can increase the risk of cancer of the bladder. Actos has been found to increase the risk of bladder cancer so substantially that it was recalled in France. Although still widely used in the United States, many of those diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos are now contemplating an Actos bladder cancer lawsuit. New reports about when Actos was first discovered to increase the risk of bladder cancer and it appears that the company that makes Actos was aware of this prior to the drug even being approved by the FDA, which was in 1999. It is this fact that heightens the probability of Actos bladder cancer lawsuits. Currently there are ongoing studies into Actos bladder cancer risks; however, the FDA did issue two separate Actos bladder cancer warning notices less than twelve months apart. The first FDA Actos bladder cancer warning focused on persons having used Actos for more than two years as having increased bladder cancer risks. The second FDA warning reduced the number of years someone has to take Actos to increase their risk of developing bladder cancer down to just one. This, combined with the Actos recall in France, has made many wonder if the final Actos bladder cancer verdict may be much worse.
